The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development facilitates long-term recovery funding for disaster-impacted areas via Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) programs, which can take two to eight years to reach affected homeowners, prolonging community recovery. This prolonged displacement can lead to financial instability, increased suffering, and home loss.

The Recovery Acceleration Fund addresses this by opening the reimbursement pathway to low-income homeowners traditionally unable to access it. By assessing eligibility for CDBG-DR programs, RAF provides eligible repairs through a bridge loan, enabling survivors to complete repairs, return home, and repay the loan once CDBG-DR reimbursement is received.

SBP’s RAF serves qualified, low-income homeowners displaced by disaster unable to self-finance their home repairs. SBP’s RAF complies with all federal, state, and local requirements, expanding the benefits of the HUD-approved reimbursement pathway to those who cannot self-finance repairs immediately.

SBP originated 24 loans to qualified homeowners affected by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, preserving $3.4 million in home equity and accelerating recovery by two to three years.
SBP originated 33 loans to qualified homeowners affected by Hurricane Ian in Volusia County, Florida, preserving $8,669,496 in home equity and increasing the county program’s capacity by 37% in its first year.
SBP is preparing to launch our third RAF program in Pasco County, Florida assisting qualified homeowners affected by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and Milton.

Currently, the Recovery Acceleration Fund is only available to qualified homeowners in Pasco County, Fl whose homes have storm-related damage from Hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and/or Milton.
